The Elementary Spelling Book
The Webster Elementary Spelling Book, or more commonly
known as the Blue-Backed Speller, was revised and published by Webster
in 1829, and again in 1841. For over a century it had provided America with
a standardized system of spelling, grammar and word usage. This revised edition
has enlarged type and spiral binding allowing it to lay flat making it easy
to use and read for children. Contains:
* 152 Spelling and Reading
Lessons from elementary to advanced word usage.
* A complete analysis of
letter and word sounds, with keys to
pronunciation
using accents, vowels, consonants, and syllables.
* Covers the use of adjectives,
nouns, verbs, adverbs, marks of
punctuation,
prefixes, silent letters, capitalization, abbreviations, and numbers.
* Explains words of irregular
orthography.
The Elementary Spelling Book is proof that education in the past was
of a higher quality and taught moral principles that are absent from public
schools today. It is an ideal tool for home schooling, personal
tutoring, or supplement public education. |
